Lions offer 'unusual brand of mayhem'
Issue date: 10/23/2007 Section:
Hailing from Austin, Texas, rock band Lions will put on a show tonight at Tasty World filled with '70s hard rock riffs.
Playing with local bands Amplified Heat, Mikey Dwyer & the Starter-Kits and Honey, the "Lions are guaranteed to melt your face," said Fritz Gibson, the manager of Tasty World.
The band is comprised of Matt Drenik on lead vocals and guitar, Jake Perlman on drums, Trevor "T-Rev" Sutcliffe on bass, and Austin Kalman on lead guitar and backing vocals.
"The band was born above a dive bar in South Austin, Texas," Drenik said. "We've toured and slept on floors for years. We take those people, places, dirty and beautiful and put them into the songs."

OK, so Boris is loud.
"It was definitely one of the loudest shows I've ever been to," said Jon Post, a senior from New York and public affairs director at WUOG.
He spoke of the Japanese experimental-metal band's last appearance in Athens.
"(My ears) were fuzzy for about two full days. I assume the 40 Watt will probably tone that down. There's a little more room for the sound to breathe."
Chunklet Magazine publisher Henry Owings, who coordinated the show, said Boris sold out the Caledonia Lounge last year.
"That show was ridiculous. It was sold out before the first band even went on," Owings said. "I had to turn Mike Mills from R.E.M. away. It was that packed."
